What do you guys think of my 23 man US roster for the World Cup?
I set up a 23 man roster for the USA for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. And I have it all set up for a 4-4-2 formation.
Starting strikers: Jozy Altidore, Connor Casey
Backup strikers: Kenny Cooper, Brian Ching
Starting midfielders: Landon Donovan, Jermaine Jones, Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey
Backup midfielders: Sacha Kljestan, Maurice Edu, Benny Feilhaber, Freddy Adu
Starting defenders: Edgar Castillo, Carlos Bocanegra, Oguchi Onyewu, Jonathan Spector
Backup defenders: Jonathan Bornstein, Jay DeMerit, Jimmy Conrad, Steve Cherundolo
Starting goalkeeper: Tim Howard
Backup goalkeepers: Brad Guzan, Luis Robles
FQ: Who wins the starting battle for Leftback? Castillo or Bornstein and who wins the starting battle for striker? Ching or Casey?
You need a better striker than Casey and Ching to accompany Jozy, is there any? I don’t know. Your mid looks good, but what about Holden? That guy is extremely good at distributing the ball, setting up plays, and shots from distance. He should figure in there somewhere. Also, Torres is good but not experienced enough, I’d still take him as a sub and take out one of the backups you mentioned. And I’d put anyone instead of Castillo for 2 reasons: 1) he hasn’t proven himself in either Mexico or the U.S. and 2) his commitment is questionable with the whole switching national teams deal, so I doubt he’ll play with as much heart as the other players, but who knows. Keeper is solid.
Ah wait now I remember, I’d put Eddie Johnson next to Jozy. Casey and Ching just don’t convince me as much.
