South Africa Football World Cup 2010. Safe?
I am planning to go to South Africa in 2010 summer (winter there, I suppose) for the Football World Cup. Is it safe? i.e. in the sponsored WC cities such as Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, etc. How are hotels, walking in street etc.? How to get there? British Airways flies from England? America?
What people seem to quickly have forgotten is that South Africa has hosted both a rugby and a cricket world cup since 1994 with great success.
So yes, there is absolutely no reason why you should not come and enjoy all that SA has to offer, in terms of safety, crime in SA is a little high but not nearly as bad as many make it out to be, common sense precautions should be taken.

Certainly the WC organizers in conjunction with government and the security forces are busy planning to ensure safety of visitors during the event and hopefully it will be adequate.
Hotels and general accommodation are plentiful but I recommend that you google and make reservations well in advance, to ensure that you are not disappointed.
Get hold of a local travel agent to assist with arrangements to get here at the most affordable rates, SAA do have regular flights to both America and England but there may be better options with other carries doing these routes.
South Africa is a great country and has lots to offer read up about all our tourist attractions…you will have a great time.
